Marissa Brandenburg, MS, LPC, CCPT, RPT

Marissa earned her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN and her Bachelor of Arts in Rural Human Services from Finlandia University in Hancock, MI. She also pursued further certifications as both a Registered Play Therapist and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Marissa believes it is vital to support the “Whole Person” therefore pursues additional instruction in nutrition for mental health.

Marissa has been providing therapy to children and families since 2015, in multiple settings including office-based, home-based Infant Mental Health and most recently school-based therapy. Before working as a licensed counselor, Marissa spent 4 years working as a home-based parent mentor with early head start, supporting families toward enhancing the parent-child relationship.

Marissa approaches therapy with a Humanistic perspective that emphasizes looking at the whole individual and stresses concepts such as free will, self-efficacy, and self-actualization. This includes using a strength-based approach to help people fulfill their potential and maximize their well-being. Marissa uses interventions that include role play, guided imagery, and creative arts. She has experience supporting individuals experiencing challenges with depression, anxiety, anger, grief/loss, divorce, ADHD, self-esteem, body image, and social skills.

When Marissa is not working, she enjoys walking her dogs, thrifting, or live theatre.
