MaryAnne Kowalski, LMSW, CAADC, CCTP, Chief Mental Health Officer

MaryAnne Kowalski, LMSW, CAADC, CCTP, is a native of Muskegon and graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central High School. She attended Central Michigan University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree with a triple major in Psychology, Sociology and Interpersonal and Public Communications.  She then continued her education at Grand Valley State University and achieved a Master’s in Social Work degree. MaryAnne is licensed as a Clinical and Macro Social Worker, Certified Advanced Addictions Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

Her professional experience began in Muskegon County overseeing programs for people with developmental disabilities which lead her to becoming the Executive Director of ARC/Muskegon.  She then supervised a pilot program for the State of Michigan at ACT of Kalamazoo to support people who were entering the community from Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital with a dual diagnosis of mental illness and a developmental disability. MaryAnne has worked in a psychiatric practice for eleven years as well as been a clinician for Pine Rest and in her own private practice which she provided treatment for people involved with the judicial system in Ottawa County. Her career also includes the administrative roles of working as the Social Service Director of Michigan Community Hospital and the Vice President of Behavioral Health at Catholic Charities West Michigan.

MaryAnne believes in giving back to communities through volunteerism and has volunteered at Muskegon United Way, Girl Scouts of Muskegon, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Muskegon and has been a board member for ARC of Muskegon, the Office of Community Correction Advisory Board in Ottawa County, Muskegon Community Mental Health Advisory Board and the Citizens Advisory Council for the Muskegon Regional Center. She also has been a volunteer field instructor for Grand Valley, and Western Michigan University.
